ImageThe Entertainment Merchants Association (EMA) has announced the results of a study by Capgemini analysing the advantages of adopting 'benefit denial' technology that would disable DVDs, Blu-ray Discs, and video games until unlocked at the point of sale.

Pioneer and Sharp join forces

Pioneer and Sharp have signed an agreement to integrate their optical disc operations under a joint company, with the aim of expanding their presence in the Blu-ray Disc market, the two companies said. The joint venture, Pioneer Digital Design and Manufacturing Corp, will be capitalised at 6 billion yen, which will be put up 66 percent by Pioneer and 34 percent by Sharp.

ImageEntertainment finance and business development experts Mary Dickinson (pictured) and Charlene Fisher have announced the launch of DF Indie Studios (DFIS). The New York-based venture aims to finance and distribute between 10 and 12 multi-genre, commercially viable films per year, budgeted up to $10 million and backed by a guaranteed US theatrical release, foreign sales, promotion and advertising revolver, as well as distribution across all platforms.

JakeBox: record-breaking order

ImageSwedish packaging company JakeBox, developer and producer of eco-friendly 'pop-up' packaging for discs, has won its largest individual order - for 202,000 units. This is for a previous customer, Universal Music, which has chosen the JakeBox for Rhythms Del Mundo - Classics (pictured).
